Bug Report - Glyph of Shadow, Glyph of Mind Flay

Javaed posted on August 13, 2009

Tonight I've got some updates on a couple of our glyphs.  We were expecting some changes with 3.2, but it looks like things got messed up.

To begin with, I'm confirming that Glyph of Mind Flay is no longer reducing the snare effect to 10%.  I'm not sure it's a full 50% snare with the glyph, but after testing the spell on multiple mobs I know they're getting slowed by alot more than they used to.

While Ghost Crawler hasn't confirmed this yet, quite a few other Priests have.  So we've got an unintended buff at the moment.

Next, Glyph of Shadow is not behaving like it should, according to the patch notes.  Patch 3.2 was supposed to include a buff to this glyph, allowing it to proc off of Periodic Damage that crits (our DoTs).

After extensive testing tonigh, I've determined that DoT crits do not proc this glyph.  Now, the initial blast of damage from Improved Devouring Plague can proc the glyph, but all other sources of damage from the glyph don't work.

thanks for the updates :> do you know if the new mind flay glyph functionality is a bug, or an intended buff?

I think a little birdy told me that they switched the buff, so instead of our glyph getting proc'ed we're getting the buff on mindflay.

That fact that the Mind Flay glyph is currently not reducing the effect of the Slow is definitely a bug, as Ghost Crawler was pretty clear that the current behavior wasn't supposed to appear on the live servers until 3.2.2. However, the buff in general is intended, so it's not a "bug" that's going to be fixed. We get to keep a 30 yard mind flay with a 50% snare, so long as we glyph for it.
